How Collaboration, Not Finger-Pointing, Leads to School Improvement
1) How will my Project improve my school / organization?
According to Frances Valintine (Founder of the Mind Lab) Kids under 12 are faster at solving problems and working collaboratively with things like coding and robotics. And even though schools are going through reforms, teacher shortages - we as teachers have to still keep learning - there needs to be more 'cohesion' between digital kids and us as the analog adults!
We as educators need to upskill in tech-knowledge either by individual short courses, seminars, webinars or group PLD.
Place-based learning will benefit learners, educators and the community eg. businesses in terms of learning - time spent outside the classroom is so important now.
Self-Learning platforms: youtube, vector online, AI teaching - which would be good for accelerant learners so that the teacher can then concentrate on smaller focused groups for learning.
2) Which stakeholders will have to collaborate on my Project?
Senior Leadership
Colleagues
Learners
Parents/Caregivers
Outside Expertise
Government or Private entities
3) Ideally, how would each stakeholder group contribute to Project success?
SLT Approval, timetable and observation/support
Collaborative learning group: Relevant meetings, discussions, implementation and running of the project (team teaching)
Learner attendance and engagement (juniors and seniors)
Parent/caregiver voice, participation via relevant experience
Funding from external sources
4) To succeed, what specific knowledge, skills and attitudes relating to collaboration would each stakeholder group need to have?
SLT Leadership: Oversight, vision and direction and time slot on the school timetable
Educators: (not all skills required as individuals and skill list is not exhaustive) Content-knowledge, co-teaching experience, assessment knowledge, communication skills, seeing yourself as a learner and a leader, team player and act with courage.
Leaners: (Educator has to be the role model here!) Looking after people and things, show gratefulness, be appreciative, think and learn effectively with others
Parent/caregiver: Support on trips if possible, if able share local cultural knowledge.
Funding??
5) How and when would these stakeholder groups acquire the identified knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to collaborate on my Project?
There are multiple projects that are running this year by most major stakeholders that require similar knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to collaborate on my Project.
Generally new proposals and meetings for projects can happen anytime (in theory) however, during Term 4 to plan for Term 1 the following year (while some projects are finishing up).
